I went down to Balboa Park in San Diego for Jeannette and Matt and had a great time. They are a silly and fun couple and were fantastic at improvising.
I loved these flowers so much I wanted to start the session here.
I just absolutely had to get the mariachi in the background. This is easily my favorite photograph of the set.
They were easy to shoot. Just leave them alone and they start doing their thing.
There was so much color to capture.
I thought it would be cute to have them "steal" the police car. Nobody was arrested.

What the Duck - A Comic Strip about Photography

I've been reading this comic strip for a while now. A lot of them may only be funny to people who understand the photography business, but some may appeal to you. This one cracked me up so much I had to share. I generally like to compose my shots along with imaginary or real lines. "Tilting" a shot is generally frowned upon in photojournalism, but is acceptable in art. So where does that leave wedding photojournalism? That's entirely up to the individual photographer, but I choose to tilt only a few shots. One should always try to have a little fun.

Using Music On Your Site
WedPix has an article this month regarding "Using Music On Your Site." It talks about how some photographers violate copyright laws when they use songs on their website and slideshows.
"Some think that if a client buys a CD or pays for an iTunes download, then the photographer has the right to use the song in a publicly viewable slideshow of that couple. Others believe that using less than 20 or 30 seconds of a music clip is permissible. None of this is correct."
That's why I use songs that I've purchased specifically to use commercially on my slideshows. I really like to add music for wedding slideshows because it helps set the mood for romance. My wife and I choose the music that fits the style of shots I take, which are generally classy and romantic. It costs a quite a bit of money to get quality music that you can use commercially, but I want my clients to know that when they choose me, they are getting high quality products.

Marlene and Solomon's Engagement Session
To begin the engagement session season, we went to a favorite beach of mine in Laguna Beach to photograph Marlene and Solomon. It was interesting in that at the beginning of the shoot, the sun was out and by the end of the shoot it was cloudy. I liked that we had two types of lighting for this set.
This photo draws my attention because of it's uniqueness. Many times during the shoot he picked her up and that made for some interesting and fun photos.
This shot was too cute to pass up. I had them sit on the sand while I shot from far away. Then I noticed how the sunlight was falling nicely on their feet so I got up close and told Marlene to put her foot on his.
I'm a sucker for footsteps on the sand.
He really enjoyed picking her up. He is a relatively tall guy so it was easy for him to swing her around in circles.
I gave this a sepia effect to match the soft innocent look on her face.

Child Abuse Prevention Center's Bright Futures Ball
The theme was "Spring Time in Paris," organized by the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center. It was a classy fund-raiser in Newport Beach to aid the battle against child abuse. I was more than happy to do my part in helping this organization. I started doing wedding photography because I had a passion for it, but to be able to use photography to help with a worthy cause is so satisfying.

Jaguar was one of the major sponsors for the event.
My favorite shot of the night.
Former Angel and baseball great Bobby Grich attended the event.

Baby Andrew Portraits
Wendy invited me to over to photograph her adorable little baby Andrew. Seeing Andrew makes my wife and I really want to start our family soon!
They decorated his room with his name. Too cute.
Andrew's grandma could make him laugh at will.
He's probably bored of this photographer already.
Andrew isn't able to walk yet, so he's held gently by his mother.
He's a silly one!
